News from the World Masters Track & Field Champs in Perth, Australia - the first day's competition started with the 8K cross country races. Janette Stevenson was the first Vic in action and had a brilliant run to finish 3rd overall in the over 60s ladies race. This magnificent run on a grassy parkland course resulted in Janette winning the W65 individual silver medal whilst leading the GB Team to victory in the team competition. In the next race John Denholm had a solid run despite just arriving the day before his M60-69 race. As the temperatures rose Caroline Lawless fought hard to finish 11th in her age group and second counter for the GB team who were rewarded for their efforts with team bronze medals in W55 age group.
Over in the stadium Ken Moncrieff was commencing his demanding decathlon competition. Having completed Day 1 full results are not yet available. However after a 14.25secs 100m, 4.28m long jump and 9.33m shot putt Ken was in 10th place in M55 age group with his points for the high jump and 400m still to be added. Ken returns to the stadium tomorrow for the remaining 5 events, along with Alex Bryce who competes in the M55 800m hopefully reaching Friday's final. The final Vic in action at the Championships is Brendan Lynch who will be competing on Friday in the M65 100m.
